UK Man Jailed After Sexually Assaulting Two Women on Packed Rugby Train
A man who sexually assaulted two women on a crowded Edinburgh-bound train was jailed for nine months after pleading guilty to both attacks. Jamie Muir, 33, from Dunfermline in Fife, carried out the assaults on 16 November 2025 while the train was packed with passengers travelling to watch a rugby match between Scotland and Argentina at Murrayfield stadium in Edinburgh.According to Sky News, Muir boarded the service at Inverkeithing and positioned himself behind two women. Within minutes of the train leaving the station he began assaulting both victims while using the crowd around him to hide what he was doing. One of the women confronted him during the attack. Muir apologised and told her he did not know where he was. Other passengers stepped in and forced him off the train at the next stop in North Queensferry. The two women continued to Edinburgh Waverley and reported the incident to officers waiting at the station.British Transport Police launched an investigation and shared images of Muir with other forces to identify him. When officers eventually arrested him he said he had felt unwell at the time.Muir pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault at Dunfermline Sheriff Court. He was sentenced on April 29 and also placed on the sex offenders register.DC Crawford Gillies of British Transport Police said: “Muir’s actions were opportunistic and sickening so I’m very pleased with the sentence handed down to him that should provide him ample time to consider his actions. There is absolutely no place for this type of behaviour anywhere on the railway network and we take every report of this kind of behaviour seriously.”The case is closed with Muir now serving his sentence.
