The Bill that ended British rule in India and gave birth to two nations

There was little spectacle on the morning of July 4, 1947. Fewer than 100 members were present when the Indian Independence Bill was introduced in the House of Commons in London.
“The actual reading of the Bill occupied only a second, the Speaker calling upon the Prime Minister [Clement Attlee], who half rose and bowed, whereupon the Clerk of Parliament read out the title of the Act. The Bill will be debated next Thursday [July 10, 1947],” read a report in The Times of India, dated July 5, 1947.
