Scar-free breast tumour removal done in Madurai hosp

VABB is an image-guided method that allows selected benign breast lumps to be removed through a very small skin incision, often without stitches.

Madurai: Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Madurai used minimally invasive Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy (VABB) to treat a 20-year-old woman with fibroadenoma, a common benign breast tumour. VABB is an image-guided method that allows selected benign breast lumps to be removed through a very small skin incision, often without stitches.The woman from Tenkasi had reported mild pain and swelling in her left breast for four months. After fibroadenoma was confirmed, she was referred to Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Madurai, where clinicians recommended VABB through the department of interventional radiology.After an advanced ultrasound identified the 4 x 3 cm fibroadenoma, it was removed under local anesthesia with a 9G VABB needle. The hospital said the patient managed the procedure well, recovered without issues, and was discharged the same day, with advice for regular follow-ups.
