From opposing Modi to opposing women
Parties such as Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, UBT and Rashtriya Janata Dal have once again revealed their anti-women stance by rejecting the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. The Nari Shakti Vandan Bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha to provide 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, could not be passed due to the opposition’s hypocrisy. The entire nation is now aware of the opposition’s anti-Modi stand.
While opposing Narendra Modi, the opposition has shown its true colours by opposing even women’s reservation. From 2004 to 2014, the Manmohan Singh government was in power for ten consecutive years. During those 10 years, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi failed to show any political will to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill. Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party vehemently opposed reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies at that time. Their opposition had left the Manmohan Singh government and Congress helpless.
The Modi government got the Bill providing 33 percent reservation for women passed in Parliament in 2023. The constitutional amendment Bill for women’s reservation was passed in the Rajya Sabha during the Manmohan Singh government’s tenure with the support of Bharatiya Janata Party. However, the Bill could not be passed in the Lok Sabha due to opposition from Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal.
At that time, both Mulayam Singh and Lalu Prasad had demanded an OBC quota in women’s reservation. They had never made such a demand before. But this last-minute demand for an OBC quota was made with the sole purpose of preventing women from getting reservation and protecting their own dominance. The entire opposition had supported the Women’s Reservation Bill when it was introduced in the Lok Sabha in 2023. However, the same opposition, which had supported women’s reservation at that time, suddenly took a U-turn and thwarted the Bill.
Even if the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and other anti-BJP leaders are now saying, “We were not against women’s reservation”, the entire nation saw these parties voting against the Bill in the Lok Sabha. Since 2014, Rahul Gandhi and Congress have repeatedly violated political customs and traditions while opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is an even more serious fact that, while opposing Narendra Modi, they did not even hesitate to support Naxalites. Maoist commander Hidma was killed in an encounter with security forces in Andhra Pradesh in November 2025.
At that time, communist parties had strongly criticised the security forces. The Communist Party as well as several leftist intellectuals and journalists had insisted on holding talks with Naxalites and Maoists. Congress had shown sympathy for Hidma, who had killed several innocent civilians and brutally murdered many police and security personnel. Congress, which was in power at the Centre and in several states for many years, was fully aware of the serious challenge posed to the Constitution by Maoists like Hidma.
Therefore, it was expected that the Congress leadership would support the Modi government’s campaign against Maoists and Naxalites. However, obsessed with opposing Narendra Modi, Congress ended up supporting Naxalites. Frustrated by the defeat in three consecutive Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi went to the extent of supporting Maoists.
Bharatiya Janata Party had always supported the campaign against Khalistani militants launched by Congress during Indira Gandhi’s tenure as Prime Minister. Rahul Gandhi does not even realise that he is supporting anti-national forces while opposing Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party.
Rahul Gandhi led the Bharat Jodo Yatra a few years ago. Several organisations with the involvement of urban Naxals had openly supported this yatra. Congress had also cast doubts on the bravery of the armed forces by questioning the success of Operation Sindoor. Now, Rahul Gandhi and Congress have directed their opposition towards women. During the Manmohan Singh government’s tenure, Bharatiya Janata Party had supported the Food Security Bill on the request of Congress.
The BJP leadership extended its support, rising above the narrow-minded view that passing the law would give credit to Congress. Many Congress leaders abuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi openly disrespects him. Rahul Gandhi has been frequently losing his composure out of frustration at remaining out of power for 15 consecutive years.
The women in the country have understood that they could not get reservation due to opposition from Congress. Therefore, no doubt women voters will teach a lesson to all the opposition parties, including Congress.
