…How To Make Biofuel
The shift to ethanol blends must include a shift from crop-based to agri residue-based options
India wants to use more biofuels like ethanol to reduce pollution and depend less on imported oil. Right now, ethanol is mostly made from crops like sugarcane and corn. But that can create another problem because farmers need imported chemical fertilisers to grow these crops. A smarter idea is to make biofuel from farm waste like rice straw, corn cobs, and sugarcane leftovers. This waste is often burned, causing pollution.
Using farm waste can create fuel, organic fertiliser, animal feed, and energy all at once, like a giant recycling machine. It can also help farmers save money and improve soil health. India produces huge amounts of farm waste every year, enough to make billions of litres of fuel.
But for biofuels to become popular, car companies must make vehicles that can use ethanol blends, and people need to feel it saves money and works well. Private companies should also help build more biorefineries across the country.
