SHIMLA: Flash floods triggered by heavy rains submerged a 100-foot iron bridge, cutting off Lippa village from the rest of Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district on Thursday.A massive surge in the Pejar Nallah within Lippa Panchayat obstructed the flow of the Teti Khad, causing the iron bridge to be completely submerged and rendering it unsafe.Several houses near the bridge are also under threat due to the rising water levels, news agency PTI reported.Continuous rainfall since Wednesday has led to a sharp rise in water levels across rivers and streams in the district.The administration is closely monitoring the situation and has urged residents to stay away from water bodies and avoid unnecessary travel.The Shimla Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places across the state till July 15.Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, continued in several parts of Himachal Pradesh since Wednesday evening, including Shimla, Kangra and Jot.Among the highest rainfall recorded, Jot in Chamba district received 45. 2mm, followed by Malroan (41 mm), Sarahan (38.7 mm), Paonta Sahib (34. 4mm), Guler (24. 4mm), Jatton Barrage (23. 2mm), Dhaulakuan (20. 9mm), Rohru (20. 5mm), Sangla (19. 2mm), Kalpa (15mm), Manali (14mm), Kukumseri (12. 9mm), Reckong Peo (11mm), Sundernagar (10. 9mm) and Bilaspur (10. 2mm).(With agency inputs)
