Noida: A 24-year-old woman allegedly died after falling from the 16th floor of a residential society in Sector 108 on Sunday evening, with her family accusing her husband of dowry harassment. Police have started inquest proceedings.The incident took place around 5.30pm at Divine Meadows society, where the woman, who had married on July 11, was living with her husband in a rented flat in Lily Tower. Police received information about the incident and reached the spot soon after. The woman was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Police said she had allegedly jumped from the 16th floor. A loud sound alerted residents and people nearby. No suicide note was found at the spot. The body was sent for autopsy and a forensic team was told to examine the scene.The couple had been living in the apartment since their marriage, barely a month before the incident. The woman had earlier worked at a business process outsourcing company but had left the job. Her husband works as a video editor at a private company.During preliminary questioning, the husband told police that she had been battling depression for some time and was undergoing treatment. Police, however, said he could not immediately produce documents related to the treatment. Investigators are verifying his claim and checking the woman’s medical history.Police are also examining whether the couple had any disagreement or argument before the incident. The husband and others familiar with the couple are being questioned, police said.Meanwhile, the woman’s family alleged that the woman was being harassed by her husband over dowry and said the circumstances warranted a detailed investigation rather than being treated as a routine suicide.Police said the allegations will be examined as part of the investigation. The postmortem report, forensic findings and statements of the family members will be considered before further action is taken.
