BHADOHI: Days before her wedding, a Dalit woman was allegedly abducted in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district, prompting police to book six people, officials said.Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Tyagi said the case was registered on Sunday evening on the basis of a written complaint filed by the woman’s father. The accused, all residents of Fattupur village under Suriyawan police station limits, have been identified as Teju Bind, his father Sheshdhar, his mother Mewati Bind, Shivam Bind, Sahab Lal and Ramnath Bind. The FIR has been lodged under sections 87 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her marriage), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the BNS, along with provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Circle Officer (CO) Ashok Mishra has been tasked with probing the case and ensuring the woman’s recovery. According to police, the woman was abducted on April 15 when her family members were away from home. Officials added that she had earlier been abducted on the night of April 6. Tyagi said the woman’s wedding was scheduled for April 20 and preparations were underway. He added that on the intervening night of April 6 and 7, Teju Bind allegedly abducted her with the help of an accomplice. As per the complaint, after an extensive search, the family received information that she was in Prayagraj. Five days later, on April 12, they located her in a room there and brought her back home. However, since the wedding was just days away, no formal complaint or legal action was initiated at that time, police said.
