Trichy’s Thennur RoB sustains damage, restoration work to be delayed | Trichy News
Trichy: The Thennur road overbridge (RoB) that interconnects commercial hubs in the city is slowly deteriorating, but repair work planned by Trichy corporation at Rs 40 lakh is still on hold as it requires the closure of the RoB for vehicular traffic. But since five bridges — Maris RoB (Fort station RoB), Trichy junction RoB, Koraiyar river bridge, Cauvery bridge and Trichy town station RoB — are already closed for redevelopment work, the corporation is in a fix to start strengthening work on Thennur RoB.“Two-wheelers face a tough time accessing the Thennur bridge riddled with potholes. As Maris RoB is closed, diverted vehicles including trucks use Thennur RoB. So, the weak portions of the bridge are getting exposed,” said T Senthil Kumar, a resident of Palakkarai.Thennur RoB has three arms — Thennur, Marakkadai and Madurai Road. The joints of adjacent decks of all three arms have sustained damage due to wear and tear. Strip seal expansion joints that bind the two adjacent decks of the bridges have eroded too.Officials said since the RoB is more than 25 years old, it requires comprehensive restoration work. “We can close and redevelop Thennur bridge only after the railways complete their work on the Maris RoB. However, temporary restoration work will be taken up,” Trichy mayor Mu Anbalagan said.Maris RoB work is scheduled to be completed by September.EOM
