Trichy division records highest-ever single-day ticket penalty collection
Railways staffs checking tickets from passengers during Special Ticket Checking Drive

Trichy: Trichy railway division’s ticket-checking team collected ₹7.38 lakh in penalties during a special drive conducted at 10 major stations on Aug 14, marking its highest-ever single-day penalty collection.The drive, conducted by 208 ticket-checking staff under the guidance of divisional railway manager Balak Ram Negi, detected 545 passengers travelling without tickets. They were fined ₹4,44,474.Another 396 passengers travelling in reserved coaches with unreserved tickets were fined ₹2,84,379. Seven passengers were fined ₹3,180 for carrying excess luggage, while five others were fined ₹6,200 for other violations, according to a railway release.In all, 953 passengers were booked for various offences, with the division collecting ₹7,38,233 in penalties in a single day.Railway officials said the special drive was aimed at curbing ticketless and irregular travel and ensuring compliance with ticketing and luggage regulations.
