Telangana statehood activists seek statutory status, plots and pensions | Hyderabad News
Hyderabad: Telangana activists on Friday demanded statutory status for the state’s agitators’ recognition committee, besides seeking 250-sq yd housing plots and monthly pensions for eligible families.They also sought reservations in education and jobs for their children, special benefits for women activists, free healthcare through health cards and free travel in RTC buses.The demands were raised during a consultation meeting of the Telangana agitators’ recognition committee, attended by more than 1,200 activists from the erstwhile Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda districts at Amaraveerula Smaraka Deepam in Hyderabad.During the interaction, activists urged the committee to examine the laws, policies and welfare measures adopted by Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh for statehood activists and incorporate similar, or better provisions in Telangana. They submitted written representations to the panel seeking a study of the models adopted by the three states.Participants also urged the committee to hold consultations in districts for elderly activists from remote areas who may find it difficult to travel to Hyderabad.Committee members said activists from the erstwhile Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda districts had played a crucial role in the Telangana movement. They recalled that the protests in the three regions had drawn national attention and contributed significantly to the formation of the state.Responding to the representations, Keshava Rao and Mote Shobhan Reddy said the proposal to study the welfare models adopted by the three states was meaningful and innovative. The committee assured the participants that it would examine those policies and incorporate suitable recommendations in its report.The panel said the report, which is being prepared with digital documentation support from the information and public relations department, would be submitted to chief minister A Revanth Reddy for further action.
