LUCKNOW: He had just witnessed a woman being shot when the man who pulled the trigger hopped into his autorickshaw. Before the driver could understand what had happened, two firearms were pressed against his head.“Take me home immediately, or I’ll blow your head off,” accused Manas Bajpai, a field officer in a bank, told the autorickshaw driver, Pramod.“The autorickshaw driver informed the police that he did not know the victim, Divya Mishra, was Manas’s wife. He said he had been waiting in his autorickshaw when Divya arrived. Manas stopped her and assaulted her. Before Pramod could understand what was happening, Manas shot her,” a policeman privy to the investigation said.Manas then got into the autorickshaw and asked Pramod to drive towards his home.When Pramod hesitated, Manas allegedly placed both firearms against his head and threatened to kill him.Pramod informed police that he had seen Manas visiting his neighbourhood but did not know him personally.On Wednesday night, Manas booked his autorickshaw for the next morning. He took Pramod’s phone number and told him that he would come whenever called. Around 11.30am on Thursday, Manas called him to Husadiya crossing and asked him to drive to Mithaiwala crossing. Manas got down from the auto and asked him to wait.“After some time, Divya arrived. Manas assaulted her and shot her moments later,” Pramod informed the police. Police said preliminary investigation has not found evidence indicating that Pramod was part of the shooting incident.
