Namakkal: Relatives of a sanitation worker who died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle blocked the Kokkarayanpettai-Tiruchengode road in Namakkal district on Monday morning, demanding information about the vehicle involved in the hit-and run.Police said K Geetha, 42, from Ammachchipalayam in Namakkal district, worked as a sanitary worker in Kokkarayanpettai panchayat. “An unidentified vehicle, hit her when she was heading for work, killing her on the spot,” said a police officer from Kokkarayanpettai police station. He added that the woman’s relatives found her body lying near a thorn bush by the roadside and alerted the police.However, when police tried to recover the body and send it for a postmortem, the woman’s relatives stopped them and blocked the road for nearly two hours, demanding that the vehicle involved in the accident be traced. Police officials held talks with the protesters and assured them of appropriate action, after which they withdrew their protest.Police later sent the body to the government hospital in Tiruchengode for a postmortem.
