Rajnath Singh praises rescue teams after 300 stranded tourists safely evacuated from Gulmarg

NEW DELHI: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in a swift operation, 300 tourists have been evacuated stranded in a cable car in Gulmarg. The rescue operation is followed by a technical glitch resulted in halting of Gulmarg Gondola service at the north Kashmir tourist resort of Gulmarg on Monday.Sharing a post on X, he said, “A joint rescue team comprising the Indian Army, J&K Police, NDRF, SDRF, and civil administration carried out the challenging operation with efficiency and resolve.”The incident took place on Monday, when a technical glitch resulted in the halting of the Gulmarg Gondola service at the north Kashmir tourist resort of Gulmarg.Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), Tariq Hussain Naik had informed earlier that the technical disruption took place around 1 pm. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir launched rescue operations in response to the crisis since then.The first phase runs from Gulmarg to Kongdoori at an elevation of about 2,600 metres, while the second phase stretches from Kongdoori to Apharwat Peak, reaching an altitude of nearly 3,979 metres. Both were suspended following the incident, as said by Tariq.
