MYSURU: A couple and their daughter, whose wedding was scheduled for June 24, died by suicide in Mysuru district, allegedly due to harassment by a youth.Police identified the deceased from Kempaiahna Hundi village in T Narasipura taluk as Shivanna, his wife Nagaratna and their younger daughter Rakshita, who was set to marry a Mysuru youth.“Rakshita left behind a suicide note. An investigation is under way,” police said. No arrests have been made so far.The couple’s elder daughter is married and lives in the village. Sources said after Rakshita’s marriage was fixed, a man identified as Ullas Gowda allegedly began pressuring her to marry him.Villagers had reportedly warned Ullas a few days ago against harassing the family.Mysuru superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baldandi confirmed that “it was a case of one-sided love”.Villagers alleged that on Sunday night, Ullas sent morphed photographs of Rakshita to her fiance, claiming he was in a relationship with her. When the groom’s family questioned Rakshita’s family about the photos, the three, fearing humiliation and social stigma, died by suicide Monday morning.Residents staged a protest while the bodies were being moved for postmortem, demanding Ullas’s arrest. The bodies were later taken to Mysuru’s KR Hospital mortuary for the procedure.
