NASHIK: A 19-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar district on Saturday, with police saying a note found at the scene cited disappointment over her NEET re-examination score.“Ankita was alone at home at the time of the incident, as her parents and elder brother had gone to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi. Around 5.30pm, relatives living nearby checked on the house and found her hanging from a ceiling fan,” inspector Hanuman Gaikwad, of Karjat police station, told TOI. The police identified the deceased as Ankita Sangle, who had been preparing for NEET through online coaching classes. Gaikwad said a note, purportedly written by the student, was recovered from the house.Gaikwad added that the note stated she was taking the extreme step because she was disheartened by her performance in the NEET re-examination. “She also apologised to her parents and brother, saying she had been unable to meet their expectations and describing herself as an average student,” he said.“Ankita had scored 166 marks in the re-exam against a cutoff of 177,” Gaikwad said.The Karjat police have registered a case of accidental death.Expressing grief over the incident, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar posted on X: “Came to know about extremely sad news even as the student movement in Delhi was achieving success. Having lost confidence amid the NEET mess, Ankita, a student from Jalalpur in Karjat, ended her life. We share in the grief that has befallen her family. Heartfelt tributes to Ankita.”Pawar appealed to students not to lose hope after setbacks. “Think about your family. There is no alternative to struggle for success. You all have the capability, and if you strive, no one can stop you from achieving success, never forget that,” he added.The incident comes weeks after another NEET-linked tragedy. On June 20, 21-year-old Yash Gosavi from Karanji village in Nashik’s Niphad taluka allegedly died by suicide a day before the NEET re-test.

Family members said he had been confident of securing an MBBS seat before news of the paper leak and subsequent re-examination left him distressed. His elder brother, Aniket, was among the students participating in protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
