Fuel efficiency has become a key factor for SUV buyers in India amid rising fuel prices and a shift towards petrol-powered vehicles. In the mid-size SUV segment, led by models such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq and Hyundai Creta, manufacturers are focusing on improving mileage without affecting performance or practicality. Hybrid technology has enabled some petrol SUVs to deliver close to 28km/l, while conventional petrol engines with mild-hybrid systems and turbocharging continue to balance efficiency and drivability. For buyers dealing with daily traffic, long commutes and fluctuating fuel costs, selecting a fuel-efficient petrol mid-size SUV has become an important ownership consideration.
