Bareilly: A court in Rampur has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000 for kidnapping two minor siblings for ritual sacrifice in 2018.Mohd Shakeel, in his late 30s, a resident of Nawada village under Bhot police station, lured Mehran, 5, and Muskan, 7, on Feb 7, 2018, on some pretext and abducted them while their family was attending a wedding in the village, said former additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Pratap Singh Maurya. The children’s father, Mashroof, who knew Shakeel through his brother-in-law, lodged an FIR the same day, alleging that he practised occult rituals.Acting on his complaint, police traced Shakeel in a jungle near Sihari village, where he was performing rituals on the children. The minors were rescued and occult books, paraphernalia and a sickle were recovered from the spot. A case was registered against him and a chargesheet was filed on July 12, 2018.“The minors testified that the convict lured them and took them to a forest around 15km away from their home and kept them in captivity for almost 10 hours before police rescued them,” Maurya said. After hearing arguments from both sides, additional district judge-I, Ajay Kumar Dixit, on Monday pronounced Shakeel guilty and sent him to jail.
