I haven’t stopped doing Bhojpuri films: Monalisa
Actress Monalisa, who made her space in Bhojpuri cinema before appearing on Bigg Boss, found recognition through the reality show and went on to establish herself on television. The actress says the transition happened organically and that she continues to enjoy exploring newer formats of storytelling.“I haven’t stopped doing Bhojpuri films, but my last one was in 2017 because after Bigg Boss, I got too many television offers. I was busy with the TV show Nazar for almost two years. Since then, I’ve been getting more offers in television, and people have accepted me in that space. It’s not that I don’t want to do Bhojpuri films. Fewer films are being made there now, while television is offering more opportunities. Since TV is pan-India, that’s where I’m working. But if I get a good Bhojpuri film with a challenging role, I’ll definitely do it.”Currently shooting for vertical content, Monalisa admits she didn’t always get the kind of roles she had hoped for. “By God’s grace, I have always had work. But in terms of work satisfaction, I didn’t always get the roles, characters and prominence I was expecting after doing the TV show Nazar. At times, I felt disheartened. But that’s how the industry works.”She says the current shift towards web content and vertical storytelling has been creatively fulfilling. “I’m getting better roles in web shows and verticals now, and I’m really enjoying this phase.”
