HYDERABAD: What was initially reported as a fall from a cot has turned out to be an alleged murder orchestrated by the victim’s wife and her associates, with Nizamabad police uncovering a chilling plot involving sedation, poisoning and an attempt to pass off the death as an accident.Three persons, including a woman, were arrested by Nizamabad police for allegedly murdering her husband, who returned on June 27 from the Gulf where he worked as a labourer, and trying to project the death as accidental. The accused allegedly administered sedatives and bathroom cleaning liquid into the victim’s veins through a cannula.Though the arrests were made on Saturday, the case came to light on Monday. The victim, D Prashanth, was allegedly killed by his wife Sandhya, who police said viewed him as an obstacle to her relationship with M Anil.Nizamabad south rural circle Inspector Suresh Kumar said Prashanth died on June 30, after which Sandhya informed his parents that he had died following a fall from a cot.Suspecting foul-play, Prashanth’s mother D Shamala lodged a complaint with the police. During the investigation, officers found evidence suggesting that the murder was the result of a conspiracy allegedly hatched by Sandhya and Anil.Police said that soon after Prashanth returned home, Anil enlisted the help of his friend Venkata Sai to execute the plan. Venkata Sai, who knew the victim, invited him for a drinking session.After consuming alcohol, Prashanth was taken to a terrace where, according to investigators, he was pushed from the first floor. As he survived the fall, he was shifted to a hospital, where he underwent treatment and was discharged the following day.“On the same night, fearing that Prashanth will make an issue, Sandhya and Anil decided to kill him. Sandhya, who is a nurse, injected sedatives and bathroom washing liquid. Earlier, while discharging Prashanth, the hospital authorities sent him home by attaching the cannula. It was through the cannula, the accused administered the sedatives,” Suresh said.Police said the accused later pushed Prashanth from the cot and attempted to portray the death as a natural one.
