A climate entrepreneur from Nashik, Sony Adhav, has launched a transformative mission to power the clean energy transition while strengthening the rural economy through her company. As founder and CEO of Nashik-based Edh Farms India Pvt Ltd, she is turning agricultural residue into renewable biomass fuel.Her venture provides industrial players with clean energy alternatives to cut fossil fuel dependence, tackling climate change at the source while creating new, sustainable income streams for local farming communities.Farming has changed for the better for Vilas Anna Mulane, a 45-year-old farmer from Dindori in Nashik district, after his corn cobs were converted into a source of income. “Nearly 17.5 tonnes of corn cobs were treated as waste on my 25-acre maize farm. Through Edh Farms, this residue has become an additional source of income instead of a disposal problem. It has changed the way I look at agricultural waste. Today, nothing from my farm goes to waste; it creates value while contributing to clean energy,” he said.Edh Farms champions a circular economy model that converts agricultural waste into economic value. To date, the company has supplied over 800 tonnes of biomass fuel and engaged more than 500 farmers.“My aim is to build scalable climate solutions that transform agricultural waste into economic opportunity, clean energy, and sustainable rural livelihoods, while demonstrating the power of women-led entrepreneurship in creating meaningful social and environmental impact,” Adhav said.Deepika Oberoi, from Britannia’s boiler operations team, said Edh Farms has consistently supplied quality biomass pellets that support efficient combustion and help reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuels. “Partnerships like these demonstrate that sustainable fuel alternatives can also deliver operational reliability for industry,” she said.
