‘Govt must not weaponise SC order’: CJP says fresh stir if students are targeted | Delhi News
NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) Tuesday said SC’s interim order permitting govts to continue investigation of FIRs already registered “stands in direct contradiction” of the Centre’s assurances of July 25 that cases would be withdrawn and no protester would be targeted.CJP said it was yet to receive the written agreement to this effect promised by the Centre, even as the deadline for honouring the assurances of July 25 expired Tuesday. “If harassment of students at the hands of police continues, CJP will respond with a massive peaceful protest soon. Govt must stop targeting and witchhunting students,” CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke posted on X.

Expresses Fear Centre, BJP-Led States May ‘Weaponise’ Court OrderIf the guarantees are dishonoured, the streets of India will once again become the voice of its young,” CJP spokesperson Saurav Das wrote on X.Also read: Kangana Ranaut fires fresh salvo at CJP’s Saurav DasThe SC order “stands in direct contradiction” of the govt’s assurance that “FIRs would be withdrawn and no protester would be directly or indirectly targeted for participating in the peaceful movement”, Das said.CJP called off its nationwide agitation “on the strength of that solemn assurance, and in complete good faith”, but now there was “a credible apprehension” that the Centre and BJP-governed states “may seek to use and weaponise this order to continue FIRs against individual protesters and subject them to great harassment”, he said.Also read: ‘Only a few hours remain before deadline expires’ – Another warning from CJP of fresh protestThe CJP further alleged that the Centre’s lawyers did not oppose the SC’s interim order despite being aware that an agreement on the issue had already been reached on July 25.“The govt must not invoke the Court’s order as a justification for reneging on the commitment it made on July 25,” Das said, adding that the Centre should place the terms of its assurances before the SC,The CJP statement came a day after the outfit, in a news conference, accused the Centre of failing to honour commitments made during the July 25 talks, as protesters in various states were being targeted.At 1am Tuesday, Das said govt representatives met CJP spokespersons and shared copies of notifications issued by Bihar and Assam and promised similar notifications from the Union govt and other BJP/NDA-governed states guaranteeing no action. CJP maintained that the broader written agreement was yet to be received.CJP spokesperson Ratna Singh said the outfit was expecting updates on FIR withdrawals from West Bengal, Delhi, and Maharashtra shortly.“Yesterday, we were told that there no fresh FIRs are being registered or detentions taking place in Delhi. I also raised concerns that members of one particular community were allegedly targeted and harassed for participating in the protest. We were assured clear instructions would be communicated to all officers to ensure this does not happen. As of now, there are no fresh FIRs in Delhi,” she wrote on X, adding she has taken up a matter with Goa authorities where a protest organiser was allegedly facing harassment.
