First photo of attacker Jaspal Singh emerges
NANDED: The first photo of the man accused of attacking Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal with a kirpan inside a gurdwara in Maharashtra’s Nanded has emerged after police took him into custody.The accused has been identified as 62-year-old Jaspal Singh, son of Teja Singh and a resident of Solapur Bazaar in Pune, police said.Singh, wearing a Nihang attire, allegedly attacked Badal while the SAD leader was on a religious visit to the gurdwara, Nanded SP Neelabh Rohan told PTI.Security personnel intervened and overpowered the attacker before he could cause further harm, police said.Police inspector Santosh Kendre, posted with the Special Protection Unit of Nanded Police, was also injured while protecting Badal during the attack.Jaspal Singh has reportedly been residing at Mata Sahib Gurdwara in Nanded for the past two years.

Badal was inside the gurdwara as part of his religious visit when the Jaspal allegedly approached him with a kirpan and attacked him.Security personnel immediately intervened and restrained the accused.The incident comes days after Badal was attacked at a gurdwara in Nanded, where he was reportedly carrying out religious duties as part of the punishment announced by the Akal Takht.Police have arrested Jaspal Singh and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.The accused is currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the motive behind the attack and determine what led to the incident.
