Fashion designer Masaba Gupta has social media buzzing over her alleged dig at actor Mrunal Thakur while praising Bipasha Basu’s latest magazine cover shoot.Bipasha dropped photos from her latest cover shoot this weekend, and had fans swooning over the stunning images. Among the many reacting to the cover, was Masaba Gupta. Taking to her social media handle, the ace designer shared the image on her Instagram Stories and praised Bipasha as one of the industry’s ‘original’ stars. She wrote, “I am very happy to see Bipasha on a cover. You see, she is the last of the OGs. There will not be another Bipasha because everything else is a cookie cutter template today. Boring. Dull. Doesn’t inspire one bit of confidence.”

Masaba’s comments had fans buzzing as it appeared to reference a controversy involving Mrunal Thakur that resurfaced in 2025, after an old video from her days began doing the rounds online. Mrunal had said, “Do you want to marry a girl who is manly with muscles? Go marry Bipasha.” She also said, “Listen, I am far better than Bipasha, ok.”The resurfaced clip prompted criticism, with many accusing Thakur of body-shaming Bipasha. Following the clip going viral, Mrunal, at the time, apologised, explaining that she was 19 at the time and did not understand the impact her words could have. In her Instagram Story, she wrote, “19-year-old me as a teenager said many silly things. I didn’t always understand the weight of my voice or how much words, even in jest, could hurt. But it did, and for that I am deeply sorry. My intent was never to body-shame anyone. It was playful banter in an interview, that went too far. But I understand how it came across, and I truly wish I had chosen my words differently. With time, I’ve grown to appreciate that beauty comes in every form, and that’s something I truly value now.”Bipasha, meanwhile, had responded to the controversy at the time and shared an empowering message that read, “Strong women lift each other up.”
