Chinchore questions Bellad’s dual stand on formation of a separate corporation for Dharwad

Dharwad: Alleging that MLA Arvind Bellad had betrayed the people of Dharwad by writing to the governor against the formation of a separate municipal corporation for Dharwad, Congress leader Deepak Chinchore said Bellad should now meet the governor and secure approval for the bill as an apology to the people.Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Chinchore read out a letter reportedly written by Bellad to the governor opposing the proposal for a separate corporation. He said that while Bellad had earlier claimed in the assembly that he was instrumental in initiating discussions and issuing a notification for the separate corporation, he later wrote to the governor on March 27 seeking rejection of the proposal.Questioning Bellad’s “dual stand” on the issue, Chinchore said the MLA had even put up large banners taking credit for the move before changing his position. He further alleged that Union minister Pralhad Joshi had sent former mayor Shivu Hiremath and advocate Arun Joshi as intermediaries after seeking an appointment with the governor.“When the state govt has already issued the notification and forwarded the bill, what is the need for further discussion? Instead of discussing, they should get the governor’s signature on the bill,” he said.He warned that if Joshi and Bellad failed to secure approval for the bill, the agitation demanding a separate Dharwad corporation would be intensified. Chinchore said awareness campaigns would be conducted in every ward of Dharwad West constituency to expose Bellad’s “double standards” on the issue.Claiming that more evidence regarding the matter would be released soon, Chinchore said, “Bellad thinks nobody will notice his actions, but people are fully aware of his deceptive politics.”
