SINGRAULI: A luxurious house she was building, a married engineer she reportedly grew close to and a phone call shortly before her death — the circumstances surrounding the death of 30-year-old social media influencer Nidhi Tiwari have raised fresh questions after her mother made new claims about her daughter’s personal life.Nidhi, who had around 9.28 lakh followers on Facebook and 7.12 lakh on Instagram, was found hanging inside a room at her home in the Bhusa Mod area under Morwa police station limits in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death and analysing her call records.Mother alleges relationship with married engineerNidhi’s mother, Hemlata Tiwari, told police that her daughter had worked as a receptionist at GS Grand Hotel in Morwa. According to her, Nidhi became acquainted with an engineer working for an NCL outsourcing company who frequently stayed at the hotel.Hemlata claimed that the two later became close. The family subsequently learnt that the man was married and had two children, following which they allegedly asked Nidhi to distance herself from him. However, according to her mother, the two continued to remain in contact.The claims have not been independently verified.Hemlata also alleged that the engineer kept a close watch on Nidhi and frequently wanted to know where she was and who was with her. According to the mother, Nidhi often remained connected with him through a Bluetooth earphone, including while she was at home.Nidhi was building a house for familyAccording to her mother, Nidhi was the eldest daughter and had taken on considerable family responsibilities. She was also constructing what her family described as a luxurious house in Baidhan and was working towards securing her family’s future.Her father, Ashok Tiwari, worked for a company but later moved away from the family after a transfer, her mother said.Nidhi had also participated in local events and beauty contests and won the ‘Miss Pretty India’ title in 2024. She aspired to work in films and regularly posted dance reels on social media.Phone call before she locked herself inPolice and family accounts indicate that Nidhi had a conversation with the married engineer shortly before she went into her room.Her mother told police that Nidhi performed a puja downstairs on the night of the incident before going upstairs. She was reportedly wearing a Bluetooth earphone when she received the call.After the conversation, Nidhi allegedly went into her room and locked the door. According to the family, relatives knocked between 9pm and 10pm, but she did not open the door and reportedly asked them to leave her alone.The following morning, when there was still no response from the room, the family informed police. Officers reached the house and found Nidhi hanging inside the room after looking through a window.The family took her to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.Police analysing call recordsPolice are examining the circumstances leading to Nidhi’s death, including her phone conversations, the people she was in contact with and the social media post she reportedly shared shortly before her death.A post attributed to Nidhi said: “Is adhoore dil ko kisi ne poora nahi kiya, maine khud se poora kar diya…” and ended with a message about loving oneself.Police are also verifying the family’s allegations concerning the married engineer and his role, if any, in the events preceding Nidhi’s death.Singrauli SP Siyaz K M said the matter was under investigation and that the claims made by the family were being verified. Her call details are also being analysed.The exact circumstances and cause of Nidhi’s death have not yet been established by the investigation.
