Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday condemned protests in Ayodhya targeting Faizabad MP Awadhesh Kumar, calling them evidence of what he described as BJP’s “supremacist mindset” against the “PDA” bloc—Pichhde (backward classes), Dalits and Alpasankhyaks (minorities), a term popularised by the SP.Akhilesh’s remarks came after agitators in Ayodhya, including some seers, staged a demonstration in which posters and effigies of Awadhesh Kumar were garlanded with shoes and struck with slippers. Protesters also displayed posters of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and independent MP Pappu Yadav.The protest was held against the three leaders for participating in a skit at the Parliament complex in New Delhi during an opposition demonstration over allegations of theft of donations linked to Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. The skit drew sharp reactions, particularly because Pappu Yadav appeared wearing a saffron robe.Posting on X, Akhilesh shared a video from the protest and termed the demonstration “highly condemnable,” alleging it reflected hostility towards PDA communities. He also highlighted that Awadhesh Kumar is among the two Dalit MPs elected on the SP ticket from unreserved constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.Akhilesh claimed BJP and its allies had been “defeated in Ayodhya” in the general election and predicted further setbacks for the party. “Now they will be defeated on every seat in Ayodhya division and on every reserved seat in Uttar Pradesh as well,” he wrote, adding that BJP would struggle to open its account in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.
