HALDWANI: BJP national president Nitin Nabin and Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took part in a youth interaction programme in Haldwani, where they discussed careers, employment, entrepreneurship, skill development, technology, sports and the future of Uttarakhand with young participants.During the interaction, participants raised questions related to the development of the state and the country. They also shared their experiences of various government schemes and offered suggestions on employment, self-employment and access to better opportunities in Uttarakhand.Nabin cites central schemes, emerging opportunitiesNabin said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the potential of India’s youth was being given a new direction while new opportunities were being created for them. He said initiatives such as Digital India, Startup India, Skill India, Make in India and Khelo India had provided young people with platforms to advance according to their talent, capabilities and skills. He added that young people were not merely seeking employment but were also emerging as creators of jobs and new opportunities.He said the role of youth was increasing amid a rapidly changing economy and advances in technology. According to him, new avenues had opened up in areas such as artificial intelligence, startups, innovation, digital technology and entrepreneurship. He said Uttarakhand’s young people had immense talent and potential and that connecting their energy and capabilities with the state’s development could help take Uttarakhand to new heights.He said that in a mountainous state such as Uttarakhand, it was important to expand opportunities in local employment, self-employment, tourism, skill development and entrepreneurship. He added that the ideas, suggestions and aspirations of young people could play an important role in determining the future direction of the state. He called on the youth to turn future challenges into opportunities and actively contribute to building a developed India.He also described social media as a powerful medium and said young people should use it positively for the development of society and the country. He said all 1.4 billion citizens would need to work together to realise the vision of a developed India. He also urged young people to enter politics and public life and contribute to nation-building. He stressed the importance of time management, saying effective use of time was essential for success.Dhami highlights recruitment, self-employmentDhami described young people as the country’s greatest strength and said India’s large youth population was providing the nation with new energy, fresh ideas and capabilities. He said the growing use of technology and innovation was also opening up new opportunities for young people.The chief minister said that after assuming office on July 4, 2021, his government began working with the resolve that “the youth and water of the mountains should both serve Uttarakhand.” He said recruitment to vacant posts in government departments was accelerated and that around 34,000 young people had so far been appointed to government services. He also referred to action against irregularities in recruitment examinations, saying members of cheating rackets had been sent to jail and that a crackdown had been launched against those attempting to jeopardize the future of young people.He said the government was not limiting opportunities to government jobs and was also focusing on self-employment, startups and entrepreneurship. He cited the Chief Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme, skill development programmes, homestays and the Chief Minister’s Udyaman Khiladi Scheme as initiatives through which young people were being provided opportunities.Sports infrastructure, technology and investmentThe chief minister said Uttarakhand was establishing a new identity in sports and that sports infrastructure was being expanded across the state. He referred to work towards setting up a Sports University in Haldwani and a women’s Sports College in Lohaghat. He also cited Uttarakhand athletes winning more than 100 medals at the National Games, describing it as evidence of the state’s growing sporting talent and changing sports environment.He said opportunities were being created for young people in tourism, local products, science, innovation, artificial intelligence, robotics and other emerging technologies. He also referred to the Investors Summit, saying it had been organized with the objective of generating new investment and employment opportunities, while efforts were under way to expand industrial activity in the mountainous regions of the state.
