Birthday promise, final video call, liquor bottle: Mystery shrouds Hyderabad woman death at hotel | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: A birthday gift promise for July 4 turned into a tragedy minutes later when a 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in a hotel room in Langar Houz while on a video call with her friend during the early hours of Friday. Police are now trying to piece together the circumstances that led to her death. The deceased, N Subramanyam Renuka, a native of Alwal who worked at a pub in KPHB, was found hanging in a room at Hotel V Grand. At 1 am, police received an alert from the control room about the woman’s suicide. A police team rushed to the hotel and found Renuka dead. After the clues team collected evidence, the body was shifted for autopsy.“We are yet to ascertain the reason for the suicide. Family members did not express any suspicion about the death. We have registered a case under section 194 (suspicious death) of the BNSS,” ACP Syed Fiaz said.Police said that the pub where Renuka worked had come under scrutiny after Kukatpally DCP Ritiraj conducted an undercover operation and booked a case against staff for allegedly resorting to soliciting activities involving women to attract customers.
Motive under probe
During the investigation, police found that Renuka had checked into the hotel at 3 am on Thursday along with Farooq, a dairy businessman from Golconda. Farooq left the hotel at around 10.30 pm to attend a function. After he left, Renuka spoke to her flatmate Satya, who works at the same pub, and also to Satya’s younger brother Bunny. “Renuka has been staying separately from her husband and sharing a flat with Satya in Kukatpally for three months,” ACP Fiaz said.According to police, an unusual conversation preceded the tragedy. Before speaking to Satya on the video call, Renuka had called Bunny and told him she would give him birthday gift on July 4.Moments later, at 12.24 am, she was on a video call with Satya when she suddenly said she was going to end her life.“While on the video call, Renuka left the phone on the bed and took her life. Satya called Farooq and he, in turn, informed the hotel staff. By the time the staff rushed to the room, Renuka had died. Renuka did not tell Satya the reason for the suicide,” subinspector Munawar Ali said.Renuka’s sister S Sony stated that the deceased was the mother of an eight-year-old boy and a common friend had informed her about Renuka’s suicide. Investigators, who found a liquor bottle in the hotel room, said they would question Farooq and Renuka’s friends as part of the probe.
