Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Administrative activities for the next phase of Auric, one of the first greenfield smart industrial cities in the country at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, have gained momentum.In the run up for planning of Auric 2.0, the Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL) has issued a national level tender for the appointment of a professional body Program Manager for New Cities (PMNC).Such an appointment is important for planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of projects for infrastructure development. According to the official plans, efforts are also underway to expand the AURIC by approximately 8,000 acres across six villages adjacent to the first phase of Auric.“The tender for PMNC was floated on July 20 with Aug 12 being the submission date. The PMNC is expected to play a key role in framing the master plan and charting out infrastructure planning among other crucial tasks ,” authorities from the Industries department said.Aurangabad Industrial City (Auric) is a planned, greenfield industrial area coming at Shendra-Bidkin near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar as a part of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). The mega initiative is expected to have employment potential of over 62,000 direct and indirect jobs as per official projections and has targeted investment upto Rs 1 lakh crore.Strategist and independent analyst Nikhil Bhalerao said further professional management of Auric would accelerate the industrial development, giving shape to Auric 2.0.“The MITL has constituted a project monitoring committee to maintain continuous oversight of the implementation of the project. Given the expanding scope of Auric, the process of appointing a dedicated city manager — responsible for day-to-day administration, civic services, coordination with industries, approvals, maintenance, and overall city management— is likely to commence soon. A multi-tier system will facilitate a more planned, transparent, and timely expansion of Auric,” he said.With multi-crore investments already made by some of the leading manufacturers of electric vehicles (EVs), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has emerged as a preferred destination for electric mobility manufacturing and has strengthened the region’s position in India’s rapidly expanding EV industry.Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated Auric on Sept 7, 2019 with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar getting promoted as a central manufacturing and investment hub over a period of past six years.
