‘Are you single, engaged or married?’ Mother’s LinkedIn message seeking bride for PhD son goes viral
LinkedIn is meant for jobs, professional connections, and career conversations. So a message about marriage landing in someone’s inbox on the platform was bound to raise eyebrows. A woman reportedly contacted a LinkedIn user to ask if she would be open to a possible match with her son.The exchange was shared on X by user Mudrika Kavdia and soon drew mixed reactions. While some people questioned the choice of platform, others saw nothing wrong with the mother’s polite approach.
Mother shares details about her son
In the message, the woman explained that she was around Kavdia’s mother’s age, which was why she addressed her as “beta.” She also congratulated Kavdia before explaining the reason for contacting her.She said she was looking for a bride aged between 24 and 29. Her son, she mentioned, was “born in 1997,” had a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and was “settled here in USA.”The mother also said she was “not in a rush.” She asked Kavdia whether she was single, engaged or married and, if she was unmarried, whether she would be comfortable exchanging information with her or her parents.She ended the message by writing, “Look forward to hearing from you. X users react to the unusual message
Kavdia posted the screenshot with the comment that she “was not expecting a mother looking for a suitable bride for her PhD son on LINKEDIN.”The post brought sharply different opinions. One user called the approach “unprofessional,” arguing that LinkedIn is not a matrimonial platform, and suggested reporting the chat.Others were more accepting of the mother’s approach.One user shared a personal experience, writing, “Cute hai bhai. My wife and I are both doctors and are childhood sweethearts. Her mother casually asked my mother in a very similar tone.”Another person described the message as “Polite, honest & harmless although not the platform but atleast she took her shot right?
