Tamil Nadu government formation: TVK chief Vijay’s second bid falls flat again – what governor said | India News
NEW DELHI: TVK chief Vijay’s second meeting with the Tamil Nadu governor on Thursday turned dissapointing again after the governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that the “majority required to form the government has not been established.”TVK has been struggling to form government in the state even after securing a stunning victory, after it fell short of majority by just 10 seats.
Though the Congress has offered support to the actor-turned politician’s party, it still requires at least 5 more seats to form majority government with 118 MLAs in the assembly.“Thiru Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, has invited Thiru C Joseph Vijay, President, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, today (7.5.2026) to Lok Bhavan, Chennai,” the statement said from the governor’s office.

Do you believe TVK will be able to form a government in Tamil Nadu?
“During the meeting, the Hon’ble Governor explained that the requisite majority support in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, essential for forming the Government, has not been established,” it added.TVK delivered a major shock to the state’s ‘Dravidian’ parties, effectively ending the three-decade-long dominance of the DMK-AIADMK duopoly. Since Vijay is also expected to vacate one of the two assembly seats he secured, TVK’s effective strength in the assembly will stand at 107. Together with Congress, the alliance’s tally rises to 112 members, just five short of the majority mark.
