Rs 193 crore aid provided to rain-hit Surat, Valsad and Navsari: Gujarat government | Ahmedabad News
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat govt has provided assistance totalling Rs 193.3 crore for damages caused by excessive rainfall and floods in Surat, Valsad and Navsari districts, according to details tabled in the state assembly.The data was tabled in the state assembly in two different questions asked by BJP MLA from Choryasi Sandip Desai and Congress MLA from Anklav Amit Chavda. Desai sought details of Surat while Chavda sought details of Navsari and Valsad.The govt replied that it had provided Rs 55.4 crore in assistance for various categories of damage caused by excessive rainfall in Surat during 2026. The largest component was Rs 39.1 crore for household goods and clothing, followed by Rs 14.8 crore in cash doles.The govt also provided Rs 1.2 crore as assistance for human deaths and Rs 41.2 lakh for livestock deaths. For damaged houses, Rs 15.7 lakh was paid for completely destroyed kutcha houses, Rs 4.6 lakh for partially damaged kutcha houses and Rs 5.5 lakh for partially damaged pucca houses. Assistance also included Rs 26,000 for cattle sheds, Rs 8,000 for huts and Rs 25,000 for poultry.Separately, in another reply, the govt stated that an amount of Rs 137.9 crore was disbursed to people affected by heavy rain and floods in Valsad and Navsari during 2025-26.Valsad accounted for Rs 71.6 crore, distributed among 81,754 affected people, while Navsari disbursed Rs 66.2 crore among 1,24,996 beneficiaries between Aug 1, 2025 and July 31, 2026.Agricultural relief formed the largest component in both districts. In Valsad, 41,854 beneficiaries received Rs 57.4 crore, while in Navsari, 29,793 beneficiaries received Rs 46.7 crore under the agricultural relief package.Govt separately reported SDRF allocations of Rs 14.3 crore for Valsad and Rs 19.5 crore for Navsari for 2025-26. These figures are separate from the district-wise assistance totals cited above.
