His own image, his worst enemy

With each passing day, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha is sinking deeper and deeper into the hole he dug for himself. He doesn’t even realize that he is sinking into a quagmire. In the process, his behaviour is becoming extremely reckless and uncontrollable. From a psychological point of view, driven by fear for his own survival, Rahul Gandhi’s language and overall behaviour are heading towards hara-kiri.

Since the alleged students launched a protest in Delhi, his body language has just been unnecessarily aggressive. He repeatedly claims that he is the only one who stands up aggressively against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, after the violent incidents carried out by anti-social gangs in Delhi, he appears to have become even crazier.

He is petrified of what will happen to his ‘aggressive leader’ image after some other people claiming to be student leaders stole the spotlight. The fear is written all over his face. A close look at the sequence of events during the Delhi protest and Rahul Gandhi’s subsequent actions indicates how deeply he is consumed by doubts about his own existence. Violent gangs claiming to be protesters marched towards Parliament. They attacked the police.

The urban Naxalite sympathizers made a huge issue out of the police lathi-charge carried out to control these gangs, who had set out with the intention of committing violence. They systematically tried to create an impression through their ecosystem that police had brutally lathi-charged young, innocent students.

This made Yuvraj Rahul Baba uneasy. It was in this petrified state that Rahul Gandhi decided to sit in protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence. He hastily planned this protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence as he was really worried to see the entire spotlight of publicity falling on others. This decision was taken out of sheer insecurity. Since then, his behaviour has been extremely stubborn. Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation was accepted and several changes were made to the law to eliminate any possibility of NEET question paper leaks.

The Modi government showed its readiness to discuss the matter in Parliament to ensure that the NEET examination is conducted strictly and fairly and that students do not suffer. During this time, it was the duty of the main opposition party to facilitate a comprehensive discussion in the Lok Sabha on this issue and peacefully discuss how to make the NEET examination law even more foolproof. Rahul Gandhi could have further enhanced his image by participating in this discussion.

However, terrified by the protest, Rahul Gandhi stubbornly insisted on not letting Parliament function. He demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah make a statement in the Lok Sabha regarding the police lathi-charge on the violent mobs. Even after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Kiren Rijiju kept on asking Rahul Gandhi to request the Lok Sabha Speaker for a discussion on the issue and clarified that the Central government was ready to answer every question raised by the opposition, Rahul Gandhi did not ask the Speaker to allot time for a discussion. He showed just how helpless he was by replying, “We do not want to listen to Amit Shah’s lecture” when the Central Government stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was ready to make a statement on this issue in both Houses of Parliament.

Yuvraj was trying to show how aggressive he was by using unparliamentary language against the union home minister. The gangs using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Jantar Mantar protest were intentionally given publicity on social media.

Looking at this publicity, Rahul Gandhi assumed that he had to use similar language and subsequently every step he took plunged him deeper into the quagmire. Rahul Gandhi did not give a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker requesting a discussion even after the Union Home Minister himself told journalists present on the Parliament premises that he was ready for a discussion. In the end, the Parliament session ended in chaos. This sequence of events led to several questions.

Congress creating chaos has become a routine in every parliamentary session. Rahul Gandhi has proved that, in his pursuit of aggressiveness, he cannot function as a responsible opposition and that he has become mentally insecure out of fear for his political survival.

From a psychological perspective, when a person becomes mentally insecure, he starts making desperate efforts to prove that he is more capable and aggressive compared to others. Rahul Gandhi’s current behaviour stems from a deep-rooted fear. Rahul Gandhi made an indecent remark about Italian Prime Minister Meloni while speaking at a party program on 13th August. His fear became even more evident after that. Yuvraj does not have the basic understanding that he is only making a laughing stock of himself by making such cheap remarks. It remains to be seen how deeply he further sinks.
