KOLHAPUR: Four college students died and two others were injured after the SUV they were travelling in towards Mahabaleshwar early on Tuesday rammed into a divider on the Pune-Bengaluru NH48 near Hotel Shivalay in Shirwal, Khandala tehsil, Satara district.The deceased were identified as Vedant Arjun Waringe, 19, a resident of Talegaon Dabhade; Sonling Dhirendra Thakur, 19, from Kamshet in Maval, Pune; Aditya Balasaheb Garud, 19, from Takwe in Maval, Pune; and Nikhil Balu Raut, 20, also from Kamshet in Maval, Pune.The two injured, identified as Dixit Dayanand Pujari, 20, and Mayur Hanumant Shinde, 20, both residents of Kamshet in Maval, have been taken to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.According to highway police, the SUV hit the divider, overturned and went into the opposite lane, where it was hit by a moving truck shortly afterwards. The accident occurred at around 1.10am.Assistant police inspector Khamgal of Shirwal police station told TOI, “The injured are stable, the relatives are planning to shift them for further treatment. The relatives of the deceased have arrived. They told us that they left midnight to Mahabaleshwar for picnic. The deceased are friends studying in a college.”
