PALGHAR: In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old young woman was allegedly gang-raped by six men after her boyfriend was beaten up and chased away on a deserted road in Talasari taluka of Palghar district. Police have arrested three of the accused so far, while a hunt is on for the remaining three.According to police, the woman and her boyfriend had gone to Umargaon in Gujarat on Sunday, August 9. While returning, their two-wheeler skidded and both fell near Aamgaon, within the jurisdiction of Talasari police station.Taking advantage of the deserted stretch, three men who arrived on a motorcycle allegedly intimidated the couple and summoned three more accomplices. The group then assaulted and chased away the woman’s boyfriend before taking her to a secluded spot near Dag Bungalow in Talasari, where she was allegedly gang-raped.The traumatised woman approached Talasari police station on Monday and lodged a complaint. Her boyfriend, who had fled the spot in fear, also later turned up at the police station and recorded his statement.Police registered a case of gang rape and launched an investigation. Based on the woman’s statement, one accused was arrested first, followed by two more on Tuesday. The survivor underwent a medical examination and is stated to be stable.
