The new proud face of a self-reliant India


Even as some groups strive to corner Narendra Modi’s government over the issue of the Delhi hunger strike, events have unfolded that fill the entire nation with pride. These events showcase the face of a Self-Reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat).

The first such event was the launch of India’s first hydrogen train on July 17. The second occurred on July 18, when Indian youths launched their own rocket into space with the support of the Modi government at the Centre.

At a time when it is being loudly proclaimed that the country’s youth, popularly known as ‘Gen Z’, have taken to the streets in Delhi against the Modi government, young Indians have successfully launched a self-built rocket into space. This rocket launch was made possible through direct support from government institutions as a result of the new space policy introduced by the Modi government six years ago, in 2020.

Vikram-1, the country’s first private orbital rocket developed by the Hyderabad-based Indian private space company Skyroot Aerospace, has been successfully launched into space from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. Domestic and foreign satellites are set to be launched into space using this new rocket, which was built by Indian youth. This is an event that fills the entire nation with pride. While some people continue to claim that the Modi government is against students and the youth, and that young people are increasingly uniting against it, the country’s youth have instead launched their own rocket into space.

India has become the third country in the world whose private sector possesses the capability to launch satellites into orbit. The rocket has been designed to successfully place small satellites into low Earth orbit. This marks a new chapter in India’s space journey that deserves to be written in golden letters. This event has become a major milestone in the history of India’s space program. Following the major reforms introduced by the Modi government in the space sector in 2020, private companies have also been permitted to build rockets and develop satellites.

The success of this rocket launch is expected to further accelerate the Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiatives. It is a pivotal and defining moment in India’s space trajectory. The growing participation of the private sector is opening new avenues and driving innovation. The availability of affordable satellite launch services will greatly benefit small satellite companies, research institutions, and startups. New employment opportunities are likely to emerge in the coming years in space technology, engineering, materials science, and software development.

“Vikram-1 is only the beginning, and we have a long way to go in this field. The youth of our country have the determination to create something new,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said while describing this achievement. The Prime Minister also said that this success would inspire countless young people to dream big and boldly embrace innovation. This four-stage rocket has been designed to provide high-speed, on-demand launch services. This mission has highlighted the skill, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit of the country’s youth. At the same time, the launch demonstrates how the reforms introduced in the space sector are creating new opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Another event of great pride for the entire nation is that, with the objective of reducing carbon emissions, Indian Railways has introduced the country’s first fully indigenous hydrogen fuel cell train. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the train on July 17. This is a major achievement towards building a clean, green, and self-reliant India. Powered by state-of-the-art technology, this train is not merely a symbol of India’s technical prowess but also a model for the entire world.

The country’s first hydrogen train, launched between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana, represents a significant stride taken by India towards 21st-century technology. Every Indian will undoubtedly feel proud upon learning about the capabilities of this train. Hydrogen railway technology has come into practical use globally only within the last 7-8 years. Currently, only three countries in the world possess the capability to operate such trains. This train boasts a capacity of 3,200 horsepower and comprises ten coaches, whereas hydrogen trains in other countries typically consist of only three to four coaches.

The credit for this achievement goes to the talented Indian engineers who designed this advanced system and the local manufacturing companies that flawlessly executed its production. The hydrogen train stands as a highly successful and proud example of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The 89-kilometre railway route between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana will give India a new identity on the world map. The technology used in this hydrogen train eliminates the need for diesel.

The hydrogen and oxygen fuel cell process emits only water vapour, resulting in zero pollution. When Indians visit Western countries, they often praise their advanced transportation systems and other facilities. However, similar facilities are now being introduced in India through the efforts of the Modi government. The underground metro stations constructed in Mumbai and Pune rival those found in developed nations. While attempts are being made to create anarchy in the country through constant protests and the spread of misinformation, the government, on the other hand, continues to take new steps toward progress and development.
