UK PMs don’t last because they can’t put sparkle back in a dull economy

The hottest story in Britain could technically be summarised as follows: a guy with glasses in his 60s turns over his office to a guy with glasses in his 50s. Starmer, UK PM, has resigned and the coronation of his likely successor Andy Burnham appears inevitable.
No big point of principle was at stake in Starmer’s exit, nor the other’s entrance on the scene. No particular generational change is underway. Both men belong to the governing Labour Party, so the handover would hardly spell ructions. It is significant nonetheless for the story it tells of post-Brexit Britain’s newest pastime: political musical chairs.
