When history begins disappearing from the plate
The version of vegetarianism that seeks to rule the menu, wants to decide who gets to be powerful, and who gets erased. It seeks to rewrite India’s public culture and push meat-eaters to the margins.
It is becoming increasingly obvious that the Sanatan Dharm being marketed today, is a Hinduism that establishes purity through vegetarian food. The latest evidence is Uttar Pradesh govt releasing a “One District, One Cuisine” list, which does not include a single meat dish. Remember, this is a state where most people, including most Hindus, eat meat.
