BHOPAL: The body of a 77-year-old man was found lying in the lift duct of his residential building in the Misrod area on Friday, nearly 10 days after he went missing. Misrod police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The lift was not working since the time around which he went missing.According to Misrod police, the deceased was identified as Pritam Giri, 77, a resident of Chinar Dream City, Misrod. He left his home on January 6 at around 3 pm but did not return.

After extensive searches yielded no results, family members lodged a missing person report at the police station. Since then, both the police and the family searched for him.The incident came to light on Friday when lift maintenance staff were called to the building to repair the lift. Later a strong foul smell was noticed coming from the lift shaft. Upon inspection, a body was found lying in the lift duct. After the body was retrieved, it was identified as Pritam Giri.Police reached the spot immediately after receiving information, registered a case, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.Preliminary inquiry revealed that Pritam Giri lived on the 3rd floor of the building. Police suspect that while attempting to use the lift, he may have opened the lift door when the elevator was stationed on an upper floor, causing him to accidentally fall into the duct below. However, cops said the exact cause of the incident and death will be determined only after a detailed technical investigation and receipt of the post-mortem report. Further investigation is underway.
