2 injured in scuffle at TDP constituency in-charge’s residence in Tirupati | Vijayawada News
Tirupati: Tension prevailed in Tirupati on Thursday after a clash at the residence of TDP’s Tirupati assembly constituency in charge JB Srinivas left two people injured. Police have registered an attempt to murder case and stepped up security in the area.The violence comes a day after the alleged kidnapping of a prosecution witness from Tirupati court premises in the 2019 murder case of a rowdy sheeter, Pasupuleti Murali alias Beltu Murali, which triggered a fresh political confrontation between the ruling TDP and the opposition YSRCP.Police said a group of people gathered near Srinivas’ residence on Thursday, leading to a confrontation that soon turned violent. During the incident, Srinivas’ personal assistants Raghavendra and Lokesh sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment. Police rushed to the spot, dispersed those involved and brought the situation under control. An attempt to murder case has been registered. Police are examining CCTV footage, collecting evidence and recording statements. Additional personnel have been deployed to prevent any further disturbance.The TDP alleged that YSRCP activists attacked Srinivas’ residence in retaliation for the police action taken in the witness kidnapping case. Party leaders claimed the assailants arrived armed with weapons and targeted the residence under the guise of a protest. Senior TDP leaders, including Panabaka Lakshmi, Arani Srinivasulu, Pulivarthi Nani, and Kalikiri Murali Mohan visited the spot and demanded stringent action against those responsible.Rejecting the allegations, the YSRCP maintained that Pasupuleti Satya, wife of Beltu Murali, had gone to the residence to protest against Srinivas for allegedly supporting the accused in her husband’s murder case. The party alleged that she was assaulted during the protest.The confrontation followed Wednesday’s alleged kidnapping of Mallavarapu Chinna, a prosecution witness in the 2019 murder case of Beltu Murali, from the Tirupati court premises before he could depose. Police later rescued Chinna near Srikalahasti and registered a case against several persons in connection with the incident. Investigations into both cases are continuing, police said.
