Guwahati: A tense situation unfolded in Guwahati’s Hatigaon area after a family alleged that miscreants attempted to forcibly enter their residence and issued death threats in the early hours of Saturday. The incident has sparked concern among local residents. Police said two persons were arrested in this connection.According to police, the incident took place on Pakiza Path in the Sijubari locality, where the miscreants threatened to kill Abdul Basid and his son Zahidul Islam. The family subsequently informed officers at the Hatigaon Police Station.Hatigaon Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Anjad Brahma said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).“The situation is still not entirely clear, but preliminary findings suggest that the incident was triggered by a money dispute. We have so far arrested two persons in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway,” the OC said.The arrested persons have been identified as Matlib Ali and Bapukan Ali, who allegedly threatened Basid’s family. Zahidul said, “Both Matlib and Bapukan threatened my father over the phone, warning that they would kill him if he did not give up his property. Around midnight, some of their associates arrived at our residence, and attempted to break down the front door but failed. Had they managed to enter, they would have killed my father and me. We do owe them money, and we had already assured them of repayment, requesting more time.”
