Woman kills puppies to avenge her neighbour

Trichy: A 28-year-old woman was arrested on Friday after she killed two newborn stray puppies in Kambarasampettai near Trichy, thinking that her neighbour who hit her son was looking after the puppies. Police also arrested the woman’s neighbour on charges of throwing a stone at the three-year-old boy. Police said J Meenakshi Mishra and G Bhuvaneswari, 30, are neighbours and have been quarrelling over domestic issues for a year. A heated argument erupted between the women around 6am on Wednesday. At that time, Bhuvaneswari reportedly hurled a stone at Meenakshi’s son, police said.

Meenakshi rushed her son to a hospital. Upon returning home about three hours later, she noticed a group of newborn puppies wandering outside her residence. She mistakenly believed that Bhuvaneswari was caring for the puppies and grabbed two of them in a surge of anger and threw them forcefully against the wall of Bhuvaneswari’s house. The puppies died instantly, police said.Footage of the incident captured on CCTV cameras spread on social media, sparking outrage among residents and animal welfare advocates.Based on a complaint filed by Ajay Bharath, the vice-president of People for Animals (PFA), Jeeyapuram police registered a case against Meenakshi. She was booked under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.Subsequently, Meenakshi’s husband Jai Ganesh lodged a complaint against Bhuvaneswari for injuring his son. Based on this, police registered a case under Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested Bhuvaneswari on Friday.
