Probe begins into ‘public display’ of firearms by ex-MLA | Patna News
Bhagalpur: Police have launched an investigation in connection with the alleged public display of arms by former Gopalpur MLA Narendra Kumar Neeraj, known as Gopal Mandal, during this year’s ‘hoilka dahan’, after a video surfaced recently.While taking suo moto cognizance of the viral video, police registered a case at Barari police station in Bhagalpur and started investigation.Bhagalpur City SP Shailendra Kumar Singh said on Friday that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law in connection with public display of arms during ‘holika dahan’ event. “Further legal steps would be initiated after investigation is over,” Singh said, adding the district magistrate would also be making inquiry about the validity of the arms licence and other legal issues.The rules related to legal arms strictly prohibit the brandishing or displaying of firearms in a public place, senior lawyer Rajesh Chandra Jha said, adding that though carrying a licensed firearm in public is permitted, it must be completely covered. Despite repeated attempts, Mandal could not be contacted for his response.
