The loss of Matthew Wing has left the Concordia University Nebraska community in deep shock. The 22-year-old track athlete died after a terrible head-on crash while driving his teammates. The accident happened on March 13 in Missouri, and it quickly turned into heartbreaking news for everyone who knew him. Matthew Wing was driving three of his teammates on Interstate 49 near Harrisonville when the crash took place. According to reports shared by CBS affiliate KOLN-TV, all three teammates were injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Wing, however, did not survive the crash.He was driving a Toyota Prius in the correct lane, heading northbound. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a Ford Explorer was coming the wrong way in the northbound lanes. It then crashed directly into Wing’s car. The impact was severe and left little chance to escape. This sudden loss has shaken not just his team, but also friends, teachers, and many others who followed his journey.

Matthew Wing was more than just an athlete. He was a student, a teammate, and a young man building his future. At Concordia, he was studying secondary education and was known as a sprinter on the track team.The university shared an emotional message after his passing. In a statement, Concordia University Nebraska Athletics said, “Concordia University Nebraska Athletics mourns the loss of Matthew Wing and extends heartfelt condolences to his wife and family. We pray that his loved ones, friends, classmates and teammates find comfort in God’s love and healing grace.”Wing was from Missouri and had a strong personal life as well. He is survived by his wife, Bri Worley. The two met in 2018 during a church trip to Kansas City. Over time, their friendship grew into love.They got married on May 24, 2025, just less than a year before this tragedy. His obituary shared a touching note: “Their friendship turned into love and on May 24, 2025, Matt and Brianna were married. They were blessed to have had each other in their lives for the last 7 ½ years.”Those close to him remember him as a kind and focused person. The obituary also said, “He was an avid runner and was a sprinter on the track team at college.”As the investigation continues, the focus remains on remembering Matthew Wing for who he was-a young athlete with dreams, a loving husband, and a person who touched many lives.
