Mapusa woman caught trying to sneak drugs into jail

Mapusa: Colvale police have registered a case against a 23-year-old woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle narcotic substances to an undertrial prisoner at the central jail, Colvale. The incident occurred on March 6 during a scheduled visit.The accused, identified as Tanvi Polji, alias Tanvi Bhomkar, a resident of Mapusa and native of Sattari, had come to the prison to meet her friend Sunil Madkaikar, an undertrial inmate. According to central jail deputy superintendent Datta Kudchadkar’s complaint, the prison staff’s alertness led to the interception of the handover.During a search, officials seized 10g of suspected hashish oil, valued at approximately Rs 10,000. The contraband was attached under a panchanama.Colvale police have registered a case under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985. While a notice has been issued to Polji, investigators are tracking who allegedly supplied the drugs to Polji to deliver them to the inmate. PSI Ramchandra Satelkar is investigating the case.
