Sasaram: A Rohtas court on Thursday sentenced a man and his son to life imprisonment in a three-year-old murder case. District judge-19 Dinesh Kumar Pradhan, while pronouncing the quantum of punishment, convicted Suresh Singh and his son Umesh Singh, residents of Bhawadihari village under Nokha police station, and imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 each.The case was registered in 2023 on the complaint of the victim’s wife, Poonam Devi, at Nokha police station. According to the prosecution, the incident took place on Aug 30, 2023 in Bhawadihari village. Owing to a long-standing dispute, the accused allegedly forced their way into the house of Ravindra Singh and shot him in front of his two minor sons, Arjun and Shivam, leaving him critically injured.Following the gunshot, locals rushed to the scene and shifted the victim to the govt hospital in Nokha, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. During the trial, the prosecution examined seven witnesses to establish the case. The court, however, acquitted a co-accused, Prince Kumar, citing lack of sufficient evidence.Holding the accused guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the court awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 each. Also, under Section 27 of the Arms Act, both were sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs 2,000 each. The sentences will run concurrently.
