The Malayalam action drama ‘Chatha Pacha’, featuring a young ensemble led by Arjun Ashokan, Roshan Mathew, and Vishak Nair has officially begun streaming. The film, which released in theatres earlier this year is now available to a wider audience after fans eagerly awaited its OTT arrival. ‘Chatha Pacha’ story blends nostalgia, rivalry, ambition and also the raw spirit of wrestling culture.

Story revolves around brothers reviving childhood dreams

The film follows three brothers who come together to revive an old childhood dream. They start a scrappy amateur wrestling ring that soon transforms into a landscape of fierce rivalries, emotional clashes and dramatic heel turns. The wrestling pit becomes the heart of the narrative.

Mammootty’s cameo

The movie also features a special cameo appearance by Mammootty as Walter, a character whose return to Kochi sparks emotional reactions among the protagonists. While the cameo received mixed responses, Mammootty clarified his approach during the film’s success meet.Mammootty said, “In the film, the way I understood the character Walter is that he is the childhood hero of these boys. At some point, he had left the town. All of them are from Kochi. After a long time, when he returns, it is mainly to surprise these boys.”He added that Walter speaks the Kochi slang from an older period, which may have caused a disconnect for younger viewers. “Because of that, the present-day kids might feel a slight disconnect. But if you look at it that way, it will connect.”

Mixed critical reception continues post-theatrical release

The ETimes review notes that the emotional track between Savio and Vetri does not land as strongly in the second half. It reads, “There are a few scenes that successfully convey the depth of their bond, but there is a noticeable lack of emotional weight in the latter half of the film.”The review adds that Vetri’s character arc feels incomplete, stating, “The audience never truly get to see Vetri as a complete person—only brief outbursts that portray him as a petulant, depressed man with anger issues.”Despite the mixed reviews ‘Chatha Pacha’ has generated significant curiosity due to its unique premise and strong performances. Those who want to feel the WWE nostalgia, ‘Chatha Pacha’ is available to stream on Netflix now.
