Disney World’s Tomorrowland just got a major boost. On April 8, 2026, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom opened its doors after an eight-month refurbishment starting in August 2025.Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is an interactive dark ride at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland. Riders hop into spinning Star Cruisers, grab blasters, and zap glowing Zurg targets to rack up points and defeat the Evil Emperor from Toy Story.

And the most interesting big star about it is the brand-new friendly robot called Buddy, built by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios.He comes up in an extra scene to train space rangers in a practice zone before the action ramps up, according to the Disney Parks Blog.

Ride vehicles got a Toy Story-inspired new look, too

The Star Cruisers now have onboard video screens that show live scores and other fun details. The handheld blasters have also been improved for better accuracy. “With always-on lasers, two distinct blaster colours per Star Cruiser, and new lighting, sound and vibration effects, players can clearly see where they’re aiming, if their aim is correct, and when they hit the target,” the blog explains.The targets are now more dynamic: the former static Zurg symbols light up and react when hit, adding extra excitement.

Guests can now capture their score and rank in a new PhotoPass photo for the first time, as highlighted by the Disney Parks Blog.

The film brings back Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the crew as they confront children’s growing obsession with gadgets.Fans rushed back immediately, with long queues forming quickly on opening day. These enhancements keep the over-25-year-old favorite feeling fresh, mixing classic charm with modern technology.
