Union minister Kumar reviews development in Dima Hasao

Silchar: Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar visited Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Friday and held a series of meetings with local bodies and officials to review developmental issues and infrastructure in the hill district.Kumar interacted with representatives of several organisations and community bodies, including the Dimasa Students’ Union and Zeme Council, to gather suggestions for the district’s overall development.At a review meeting in the circuit house conference hall with officials of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Kumar stressed the need for concrete steps to strengthen departmental functioning and improve delivery of public services.Officials highlighted challenges faced by the council. District programme manager for the national health mission, Rukmini Difoesa, pointed to staff shortages and overcrowded hospital facilities. NCHAC chief executive member Debolal Gorlosa told the minister that the council has been unable to advertise new posts due to non-sanctioned vacancies.Joint secretary Rebecca Changsan, in charge of education under NCHAC, said more than 100 appointments had recently been made in the education sector. Representatives of apex bodies also demanded the establishment of a university campus, an engineering college, and more central schools in remote areas to improve access to higher education.As part of his visit, Kumar inspected PM Shri govt Girls Higher Secondary School in Haflong and interacted with students.
